Our Vision

More than a place to live.

The Vital Wellness Project is a supportive living community for adults navigating mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and behavioral challenges. Through a structured, compassionate environment, we help residents build healthy routines, strengthen coping skills, deepen relationships, and grow toward independence.

We believe lasting change happens when mental, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual wellness are cultivated together — inside a community that believes in you. This is a place to rediscover purpose, strengthen resilience, and create a life worth living.

The Team

Founded by people who’ve lived it.

Dusty Lee Burrows

Dusty Lee Burrows

Co-Owner · LPC-S, LCDC

Dusty Lee Burrows is a Texas Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, and the Owner and CEO of ReHumanate Counseling and Recovery Services in Plano. He has served in behavioral health since 2016 — across residential treatment, community mental health, and private practice.

He brings something no credential can teach: Dusty is himself a person in long-term recovery, walking a 12-year wellness and healing journey. He co-founded The Vital Wellness Project to build the kind of supportive community he knows makes recovery stick — a place where people are met with honesty, dignity, and real tools for change.

Karla Vessels

Karla Vessels

Co-Owner · RSPS, MHPS, PSS, CHW

Karla Vessels leads with her heart because she has lived it. In recovery since 2019 and justice-impacted herself, she knows the road of substance use and mental health from the inside. And in 2018, she lost her son to suicide — a loss that deepened her understanding of mental health struggles in a way no training ever could.

That lived experience is what drives everything she builds. Karla has devoted her career to Texas peer recovery support: supervising the Recovery Support Services program at Texoma Community Center, the local mental health authority, and since November 2025, serving as Program Director at the North Texas Connection Center, where she oversees free peer services for individuals across three counties.

She is certified by the State of Texas as a Recovery Support Peer Specialist (RSPS), a Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS), and a Peer Support Supervisor (PSS), as well as a certified Community Health Worker (CHW).

She co-founded The Vital Wellness Project from a simple, deeply held belief: people working through substance use and mental health challenges deserve more than a roof — they deserve a genuinely supportive, dignified place to heal. No one should have to walk that road alone.
